The 2009 Annual Educational Conference
Sedgley Park Centre, Manchester
20th - 22nd March, 2009

The 2009 Gala Dinner will be staged at the Elizabethan Suite located at Bury Town Hall. Bury is the birthplace of Robert Peel, the founder of the modern police service, and provides a perfect backdrop for this prestigious event.

A social event to be held on the Saturday evening will take place at The Castlefield Rooms. This venue has a city centre location and will be a fantastic place to sample the world renowned “Manchester nightlife”. A number of high-profile speakers have been preliminarily booked as speakers at our lectures. We are confident that when we announce their confirmations, it will generate a lot of interest within the forensic community.

We are very pleased to announce that Northrop Grumman have agreed to sponsor the lectures element of our conference. The Ident1 service providers have given the conference continued support for a number of years, for which we are very grateful.

Other sponsorship opportunities are still available, details of which can be obtained from our conference team: conference@fpsociety.org.uk

As from July 1st a microsite devoted to the conference can be accessed from our main website. This section will offer fully updated, comprehensive information on the conference and its associated events. You will also have the opportunity to register online or download the appropriate booking forms. Booking forms will also be published in the July issue of Fingerprint Whorld.

We are currently developing an online application process that should hopefully be operational later in the year.

The Committee

We are now in a position to offer members an opportunity to see what actions are being generated at our committee meetings.

In the next few weeks a webpage will be devised that will display all ongoing actions (subject to vetting). We hope that this will demonstrate the kind of work undertaken by the committee to improve the running of the organisation and the professional development of its members.

We will also give members the opportunity to forward agenda items for the committee to discuss at forthcoming meetings. Our next committee meeting is due to take place on Saturday October 11th 2008.

We are also going to improve our Meet the Committee page, so that clicking the relevant name on that page could access profiles containing brief biographies. This upgrade is likely to take a few weeks to complete.

The role of Merchandise and Marketing officer has been filled by Nick Mitchell of Leicestershire Constabulary.

Award Nominations

May we take this opportunity to remind you that nominations are being sought for The Henry Medal and The Lewis Minshall Award.

The last date for submissions is 30th September 2008. Some nominations have already been received and the recipients will be decided at the October committee meeting.

Postal nominations should be addressed to Robert Doak, The Fingerprint Society Secretary; or you can make your nominations online.

Fingerprint Whorld Update

Due to a change in printers to coincide with the appointment of a new editor, we are reverting to our original publication months, thus meaning the next journal will be distributed in July.

We apologise for any confusion which may have been caused.
