COMMITTEE MEMBERS TAKE PART IN CHARITY ABSEIL
During the annual conference held in Liverpool in March 1999, a very moving and informative lecture was presented by ex Detective Superintendent Albert Kirby on the murder (and subsequent investigation and trial) of James Bulger; a 3 year old boy who was abducted and killed by two 10 year old children.
Last year, Denise Fergus, the mother of James started an appeal to open a Red Balloon Learner Centre in the city of Liverpool and dedicated to the memory of James.
Red Balloon aids in the recovery of bullied children and would enable them to have access to a full-time education in a safe learning environment.
The patron of the charity is Esther Rantzen and the chair of the trustees is Bernard Hogan-Howe, who is the Chief Constable of Merseyside and opened last year's conference in Southport.
The charity planned an abseil from the roof of Merseyside Police HQ, and took place on Sunday 10th May. A team of able volunteers from The Fingerprint Society committee took the plunge over the edge.
The committee members who took part were:
Richard Case, Allison Power, Nick Mitchell, Phil Swindells and Robert Doak.
If you wish to sponsor any of these people, their contact details can be found on our "Meet the Committee" page.
Cheques should be made payable to Liverpool Red Balloon and please forward your home address (if you are a UK taxpayer) so that Gift Aid can be claimed on your behalf.
The 2009 Conference Team has embraced this appeal as our chosen charity, and the proceeds of the raffle at our gala dinner will be presented to members of the charity after the dinner.
